Sarah Illustrates Spins Chill Vibes Into Viral Fame

Both a proud mom and a proud performer, Illustrates makes no effort to hide either part of her world.

“Everybody knows what I do,” she says matter-of-factly. “The other parents, the teachers at school, everyone. I’d say 90% of people are super accepting. We do trick-or-treating, family barbecues, all of it.

“I always say, the other soccer moms are freakier than me!” she laughs. “I just happen to film what I’m doing. It also helps that we live in LA now. Everyone has a weird job here.”

That dual identity — a wholesome, relatable social media presence that exists side by side with her adult persona — turns out to be a big part of Illustrates’ appeal. Illustrates’ authenticity, she observes, is what keeps her fans coming back.

“We’re kind of unicorns in that sense,” she says of herself and her husband, Alex. “One day we’ll do an ad for Blue Chew, the next day it’s a granola bar. I want to show that you can do both. I’m literally the mom next door who likes to cook and garden — but who also loves making content with my husband and with other talent.”

Just Your Average Couple

Illustrates’ adult career began almost by accident.

“My husband and I used to joke about doing adult content,” she says. “Like, ‘We’re going to quit our jobs and go into porn!’ At first we were joking, but we realized it was something we both actually wanted to do.”

That wish remained unfulfilled while the couple started a family, but when the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, they found themselves creating funny, sweet TikToks and YouTube videos together while stuck at home. Since his IG tag was Alex_Illustrates, she became Sarah Illustrates to match.

“We got kind of famous,” Illustrates marvels. “People started asking, ‘Where’s your OnlyFans link?’ So eventually we posted some pictures — and we made so much money the first month, we just kept going. Our content got riskier and riskier as the months went on.”

From there, things moved quickly. After they shot a successful scene for another studio, Vixen reached out.

“When they called, I was like, ‘You want me? A soccer mom?” Illustrates remembers. “But that’s exactly what they liked about me.”

Being a Vixen contract star, she says, feels elegant and high-end.

“I wanted to stray away from that false stereotype people have of adult stars being trashy or bimbo-y,” she explains. “My husband and I, we’re just your average couple next door who happen to do this. Vixen gets that.”

Love and Logistics

Now that the “average couple” has millions of fans across TikTok, Instagram, X, YouTube and OnlyFans, they maintain a strict work schedule to keep things running smoothly.

“We’re husband and wife all day long and we’re business partners all day long,” says Illustrates. “It’s all intertwined. My husband was a general manager for 20 years, so he’s really good at managing time. He goes to our whiteboard every morning and we plan out what needs to be done — adult content, social content, whatever the priorities are. Then we get to work!”

While some creators might shoot late into the night, Illustrates and her husband necessarily keep it tight. Their workday runs like clockwork, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. — the window between school drop-off and pickup.

“It’s a day job for us,” she says. “Sometimes I do Mynx at night, but during the day, that’s when it’s ‘go time.’”

That separation of work and family covers not only time, but space.

“We have one house we live in, and one house we shoot in,” Illustrates explains. “That really helps.”

She’s even systematic about her days off.

“I’m either baking bread or I’m in the pool,” she says. “Or both!”

Industry Insights

Despite all the moving parts, Illustrates finds time to reflect on how far she’s come and how different her life could have been, as well as — now that she’s made her mark in adult — to offer some un-sugarcoated advice for anyone considering the same path.

“I wouldn’t recommend starting at 18,” she says. “Not that it’ll ruin your life, but I think people should try other things first. Study, go to college, try to figure out who you are. Remember: Once it’s out there on the internet, it’s out there. You have to be okay with that.

“I didn’t even start doing adult stuff until I was 30!” she adds. “I know you can’t always wait that long. But I’d say around 22 to 24 is a good time to maybe dabble and see if it’s really for you.”

Illustrates also recommends social media as a valuable research tool for aspiring performers.

“You can follow all these adult stars and get a sense of who they are,” she explains. “Study them. What are they doing? What have they been in? What makes them unique?”

‘How We Do it’

Another trait that makes this particular adult star memorable is her signature relaxed vibe. She comes across as warm, grounded and unbothered by the noise of the world — something she happily attributes to being from the San Francisco Bay Area.

“People always say I’m so chill,” she says with a smile. “And I’m like, ‘I’m from the 510, baby.’ I’m from Hayward. That’s just how we do it!”

Looking ahead, Illustrates has some major plans in motion, including some big news about her work with Vixen that she can’t go into detail about just yet — though she hints that fans should keep an eye out. She’s also shifting more focus to YouTube, leaning into her SFW side.

“People message us saying, ‘I’ve followed you for three years and had no idea you did adult,’” she shares. “I love that. It shows we’re not pushing the sex stuff on every platform.”

Still, the crossover is strong.

“It’s probably 50/50,” Illustrates says of her fan base. “Some people only know us from TikTok. Others only know the adult side. But I think they all appreciate that I’m a real person.”
